Alice Springs Cycling Club (ASCC) celebrated its 50th-anniversary last year; leading the way in the Northern Territory with a strong mix of social, racing and gran fondos, to cater for the different communities it represents.
The Northern Territory has highest number of cyclists per capita in the country and cycling is a big part of the Alice Springs community.
One of the key benefits riders will find in Alice Springs is the weather is great all year around, meaning that the ASCC have the ability to run a variety of racing and events with the clear skies and warm weather allowing people to commute or ride for fitness at all times of year.
While the ASCC has a thriving track scene on their outdoor velodrome and a new clubroom, the club has found that by increasing participation events and decreasing race days, they were able to attract more local riders to the club and grow their membership.
Additionally, the club has grown its weekly Women on Wheels program by creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for women on its social rides.
ASCC aims to give its members value for money by offering a mix of social and competitive events throughout the year. By holding rides and races on most weekends ASCC is able to meet the needs of cyclists with all types of Cycling Australia memberships.
Riders with RIDE+ licenses can sign up for the clubs gran fondos and time trials, whilst Race membership holders are provided with a criterium, cyclocross, road race, a TT series, and track racing under lights every Friday night.
The best way to get involved with the club is to join them one of our social rides on Saturday, Tuesday or Thursday morning. Alice Springs CC don’t require a Cycling Australia membership for these and it’s a great way to connect with local cyclists in a non-competitive group. Plus, most of the social rides finish at a cafe with coffee or a BBQ.
