Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) Ltd are pleased to announce Armidale will host the New South Wales Cross-Country State Championships on the 25th of November 2017.
New England Mountain Bike Club will hold the event at Sport UNE with support from the University of New England and Armidale Regional Council.
Club President Peter Hosking said they are delighted to host an MTBA approved state event and expect riders from across NSW to participate.
“A course will be chosen to suit state level competition. We really would like to see this being a stepping stone for people who are wanting to take the next step from club or school based mountain biking.”
The course at Sport UNE was the venue for Round 3 and 4 of the National XCO Series earlier this year.
MTBA CEO Shane Coppin said the New England region has proved to be a real growth market for mountain biking thanks to the work of the club and other valuable stakeholders.
“New England MTB is one of the most passionate clubs in the country. We saw what a great event they held during our national series, and are once again pleased to be able to work with them to help promote the sport even more.”
Armidale Regional Council Administrator Dr Ian Tiley said this is more evidence of the great work being done by the New England Mountain Bikers and the University of New England to build Armidale’s reputation as a destination for mountain bikers.
“The NEMB and UNE have put considerable work into developing infrastructure that supports the sport, and have played a great role in contributing to the growing popularity of mountain biking in this region,” he said.
