For the third time this year Brendan Johnston (ACT) has proved unbeatable over the marathon distance notching up another commanding victory this time at the Easter in the Alice – Round 3 of the 2017 XCM National Series.

The current Australian XCM Champion and series leader completed the 75km stage race in 3:22:44 nearly five minutes faster than Ryan Standish (VIC) and Michael England (QLD) who filled out the minor placings.

Johnston firmly secured his place at the top of the elite men’s standings after victories at ‘The Willo’ and ‘The Golden Triangle’ only last month.

The Canberra rider will go into the National XCM Championships at Townsville in two weeks, confident of securing his green and gold jersey.

Standish continues to show his impressive form over the longer trips, with his second podium in as many races in his return to the elite category.

While in the elite women, 2015 National XCM Series winner Jenny Blair (ACT) claimed her first win of the series after a second at ‘The Willo’ in February in a time of 4:13:10.

Briony Mattocks (NSW) finished runner-up for the second consecutive year, four minutes behind Blair.

Over 220 riders competed across the four day event, which ranged from the 75km race through the rocky Alice Springs terrain to  18km journey for the mini marathoners.
