Team TIBCO – Silicon Valley Bank returns home for the “Amgen
Breakaway from Heart Disease Women’s Race supported by SRAM” that
starts tomorrow in South Lake Tahoe.
The Tour of California is the next round of the UCI Women’s World Tour
following last week’s Chongming China race.
Stages 1 and 2 start and finish at the Heavenly resort in South Lake
Tahoe and offer Bay area fans a great opportunity to come and see their
home team compete against some of the best women in the world.
“It’s such an exciting opportunity for the Bay area cycling
community to have a World Tour race right in their back yard” said
Team founder Linda Jackson. “We have competed in every Tour of
California race since the first edition in 2008 when it was a one-stage
Criterium. We won that race with Brooke Miller, and have been thrilled
to watch the continual evolvement of the race into what is now a
multi-day World Tour race. We are looking forward to an intense four
days of racing here at home.”
Three road stages will be followed by a criterium around Capitol Park in
the center of Sacramento. Stage one takes the riders around scenic
Lake Tahoe, and finishes up the challenging climb into Heavenly resort.
Stage 2, a new route for 2017, offers up an exciting opportunity for the
climbers in the peloton with the introduction of the relentless
Kingsbury Grade (7.8 miles at an average grade of 6.1%) towards the end
of the stage. This climb and the final kick up to the finish line will
most probably be where the attacks will come and the GC battle can be
won or lost!
