Stage 1 – Port Adelaide to Lyndoch (145km)
Lyndoch in the Barossa Valley will host the stage finish yet again. There is one king of the mountains competition early so there will be hot action to get into the early break from the smaller teams to try and get on the podium with that jersey at the end of the day.
The day will, however, be dominated by the sprint teams.

Caleb Ewan ($2.20/$1.25) is the favourite has been unstoppable here the last two years. He has a team here dedicated to leading him out. He got in a bad position in the People’s Choice Classic and will look to rectify it here. He does have challenges though and won’t find it easy.
Peter Sagan ($4/$1.57) rode the perfect sprint last night. Followed the right wheels and came out at the right time. He was never going to be beat. With that said, now that he has his win, he will be on lead-out duties for their other sprinter Sam Bennett ($13/$3.50). Sagan will get his chance during the race, but not for tomorrow’s stage.
Andre Greipel ($5.50/$1.90) had a tough year last year and this year has come back to a race which he has a great history at to get confidence back. He looked in fine form last night. Unfortunately for him he sprinted a bit too early which gave Sagan the perfect lead out, but he will gain confidence from that and I expect him to take a stage this week, most likely tomorrow.
Elia Viviani ($6/$2.20) is riding for Etix-Quickstep Floors this year from Team Sky last year. He had a great year last year picking up a few good victories and last night he was poorly positioned but his speed to catch up and take 4th was brilliant. It will take a few tries to get used to his new lead out but if he’s dropped in the right spot, watch out.
Phil Bauhaus ($21/$5.50) is Team Sunweb’s leader. He has a good leadout man in 2017 Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race winner Nikias Arndt. They were prominent last night but got lost towards the end. Don’t expect them to make the same mistake again.
Other riders that will sprint are Simone Consonni ($34/$7), Christopher Lawless ($41/$9), Mark Renshaw ($51/$13), Riccardo Minali $51/13, Steele Von Hoff $101/$21
Best Bet: Andre Greipel @ $5.50/$1.90
Best Long Shot: Phil Bauhaus $21/$5.50
Andre Greipel $5.50/$1.90
