So after a rest day we have another stage for the break. With 3 climbs in the last 70km, we could also see some GC action too because it’s all downhill to the finish.

Sky will let a big non threatening break go and by the time they start the first climb, they will probably have around a 10 minute advantage and that will be enough to win.

We’ll have the usual suspects in the break that we have seen. As for the favourites, it is going to be a climber that can descend, so that narrows the list down.

Rafal Majka – There were decent climbers in the break and he got away from them today. If he does the same tomorrow he wins the stage.

Gorka & Jon Izagirre – Both can descend and both will be motivated when the race heads through Spain.

Adam Yates – Tried unsuccessfully to get into the break. Looks to be better than what he was. If he is there he is one of the favourites.

Marc Soler – Didn’t look that great today, but on a shorter steeper climb, he should be fine.

Damiano Caruso – Will keep trying to get the win he is after. He will definitely be up the road.

Warren Barguil – Hunting stage wins. Not sure this will be the one for him, but he is going to try.

Julian Alaphilippe – After a rest day, Alaphilippe should be feeling strong again. The break will need to ride these climbs hard to try and drop him. If they can’t drop him, he wins.

Omar Fraile – Astana will be looking to get another stage win and on paper this is perfect for Fraile. He should be able to hold on and maybe get away and then he can descend and he packs a sprint.

Lilian Calmejane – Was disappointed he didn’t win today. Will be extra motivated. He just needs to ride smarter and conserve energy and attack later in the stage when it matters.

David Gaudu – Doesn’t seem to be struggling yet. He will definitely give this a go.

Daniel Navarro – Missed the break today. He is Cofidis best chance of getting a stage win.

As mentioned above, the GC riders will try and do something on this stage. I expect Lotto NL Jumbo to go berserk with Roglic. At the end of the day, however, someone from the early break will make it.
