The Tour Down Under kicks off with a stage that will end in a bunch sprint. Despite the climbing for most of the stage, the break will be kept on a short leash by the sprinters teams and there will be a fast finish into Port Adelaide.

Caleb Ewan $3/$1.30 – Ewan started the Tour well by winning the people’s choice classic. He avoided the carnage and was at the front of the race and Sagan couldn’t overpower him. He is the favourite for this stage.

Elia Viviani $2.75/$1.25 – Viviani came of age last year winning a lot of races. He will be the main challenger to Ewan here. Has a strong team to lead him out.

Peter Sagan $5/$1.70 – Sagan was in the perfect position yesterday but couldn’t overpower Ewan. I will say that he won’t win the stage.

Maximilian Walscheid $8/$2.50 – Doesn’t have that great of lead out so can’t see him winning.

Phil Bauhaus $11/$3.50 –Has a solid lead out and is a fast finisher. Will be one of the dangers to Ewan and Viviani. Depends how he feels after crashing yesterday. If not good, they will ride for in form Heinrich Haussler.

Danny Van Poppel $21/$6 – Needs a harder finish slightly uphill. Could get on the podium but won’t be winning.

Jakub Mareczko $26/$7.50 – Has a good lead out. Won a lot of smaller races last year and has come second to Gaviria in stage 12 of last year’s Giro d’Italia. Won’t win, but is a nice price to podium. He secured a world tour contract this year so now is the time to bring it to the bigger races.

Tips and Prediction

It will be a Viviani v Ewan showdown. Despite winning yesterday, Ewan is still getting used to his new team and leadout. In a less chaotic finish, I think Quick-Step will control it well enough to deliver Viviani to victory.

Elia Viviani @ $2.75 (3.5)
Jakub Mareczko top 3 @ $7.50 (1.5)

  1. Elia Viviani
  2. Caleb Ewan
  3. Jakub Mareczko
